Since its inaugural 2012 event, SlapIt2me has grossed in excess of $20,000 and seen more than 400 athletes and spectators hit the pavement in the name of fun, competition and community. Please read more about The Cause.

Established in 2012, The “Derek Twomey Scholarship for Sport” is an annual $1000 award with the following primary goals:

  • Encourage the participation of graduating high school students in varsity sport
  • Draw new young talent to the Camosun College Chargers
  • Enable post-secondary students to pursue their athletic and academic aspirations, who may not otherwise be financially able to do so
  • Ensure that the memory of Derek Twomey, a gifted student and athlete, and fierce competitor, lives on

Martin Adey (SlapIt2me Co-founder), Vitor Macedo (2013 Derek Twomey Scholarship For Sport Recipient) & Charles Parkinson (Camosun Chargers Coach)

Any student enrolled at Camosun College as a full-time student, while playing Men’s Volleyball for the Camosun College Chargers will be eligible.  The award’s selection committee is comprised of a few of Derek’s former teammates and coaches.  Based on the person Derek was, and who he grew to be through his time at Camosun, the following criteria will be considered for Derek’s award:

  • Academic performance: Students showing academic excellence will be favoured
  • Athletic performance
  • Passion for competition
  • Work ethic while training
  • Students coming from out of Victoria will be given further consideration over students pursuing studies in their home city
